Algiers int’l comics festival pays tribute to pioneering artists

ALGIERS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) — The 16th edition of the Algiers International Comics Festival concluded here on Saturday after five days of activities and exhibitions focused on the theme “Algerian Stories.”
Artists and authors from 15 countries, including Japan, France, Italy, the United States, Egypt, and Tunisia, participated in the festival, engaging with comic enthusiasts and leading conferences and debates, according to Jaoudet Guessoum, the festival’s artistic director.
Participants of the festival paid tribute to pioneering artists who used their works to raise public awareness during the Algerian War of Independence, which lasted from 1954 to 1962.
The festival featured a display of publications, panel discussions on the comic book industry, and cosplay contests. ■
