BIG-IP AAM works in the unified F5 TMOS platform that allows the integration of application delivery and WAN optimization technologies, thereby simplifying the overall architecture. It helps solve problems of application acceleration by:

- Compression of transmitted data,
- Object caching,
- Optimization of image and video delivery,
- Deduplication of transmitted data
This BIG-IP-AAM unit can be used on its own to provide web application acceleration and optimization or it can be used in-line with the BIG-IP-LTM switch to provide acceleration for multiple web server back-end.   Two of the AAM units can also be deployed between two remote offices to optimize the WAN link and provide symmetric optimization to accelerate data transfers between remote offices.
