The CDS-2 machine was declared obsolete by Bunn many years ago.  Bunn has stopped providing support for the CDS machines and has gradually stopped supplying parts for this machine.  One of those parts no longer supplied by Bunn is the start capacitor.
Knowing how many people have these machines and want to keep them going, Margarita Guys has researched and found a brand new replacement capacitor with the exact same capacitance but a higher voltage rating, making the capacitor work the same but giving it more safety against higher electrical surges.
The new capacitor is slightly smaller than the original, but we’ve taken care of that for you by providing a new end cap and a new clip to hold the capacitor in place on the old one.  The new capacitor has the same electrical fittings as the original.

The capacitor is our "earliest battery" when it was in the form of a Leyden Jar where it was found it could hold electricity for a short period.  That is what a capacitor (formerly known as a condenser) does -- its stores an amount of electrical power until the time it is needed.  When the machine's refrigeration compressor, basically a motor and pump, starts up there is a need for an extra "jolt" of electricity to overcome the inertia of its non-moving state, and the capacitor's stored energy provides that needed power.
The actual replacement of this part is relatively easy, but the troubleshooting needed to determine the need to replace is intermediate and may require a repair technician with electrical and refrigerant systems experience and tools for measuring capacitance (and ideally the use of a compressor tester).  If your compressor fails to start, after checking and confirming all control circuits and relays are OK, the start capacitor would be the next likely culprit.
