Antique English Silver Plate Epergne with Single Cut-glass Vase – 3-Winged Pegasus Horse Base
My Grandmother insisted that we always have fresh flowers on our dining table & always have flowers when we entertain.
A very special way to display a modest number of flowers and to make them look rather glamorous and grand is by using an epergne – a tiered centerpiece with several small vases. She had dozens & dozens of them. Lucky us!
For our New Year’s Eve dinner, we chose an antique silver plate single vase epergne with 3 winged horses symbolizing Pegasus. The symbolism of Pegasus as a mythical divine horse is from Greek mythology. Pegasus is a symbol of knowledge, glory, & inspiration which we thought apropos for the coming new year & new decade – 2020. We placed it on a round raised mirrored plateau to give it added height and reflection. We used a bouquet of yellow roses – very simply & easy to do. Overall this piece measures approximately 13 1 /2 inches by 7 1/2 inches wide. The vase is cut glass & is perfect. This epergne has been kept in wonderful condition.
It would certainly make a lovely gift for someone special, or to add to your own home to set a very special table any time of year. We show it set on one of my Mother’s wonderful long narrow ornate mirrored plateaus for extra vibrancy.
