*****
QUINTESSENTIAL HITCH!!
You can't call yourself a Hitchcock collector without this piece. That's for sure,
as this is the ultimate Hitchcock poster in existence!
It's the rarest too, as this comes from the ONLY collection known to have this extraordinary item. I've never heard of another! Check the web and search the databank of images. You won't find this one. Hitchcock only appeared on a handful of posters throughout his long and distinguished career. This advertising poster has by far the most representative imagery ever released on the master director. It's PERFECT! It's also a piece that was printed at the very peak of his popularity - 1962. It was made to promote the release of one of the most important interview articles ever written about Hitch and his films. It also promotes the legendary Alfred Hitchcock Presents, and, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour TV shows, which are considered to be solidly in the best 100 TV broadcasts of all time.
This poster was released in December of 1962, to coincide with the publication of an exclusive interview in the Saturday Evening Post. It was used at newsstands 55 years ago and was NOT issued or sold to the public. Back then nobody saved these posters, and so, unlike the movie posters released for all of his films, this is a RARE one! It's even a LOT rarer than the 1930's one-sheets on 39 Steps and such. It was printed on thick paper, very similar to a movie poster lobby card. The size is similar too, it measures 13.5 by 10 inches. I've had this piece for over a decade and am now making it available for the first time. I've priced it LOW for a quick sale.
The poster is in
VERY FINE CONDITION
. It was used outdoors at the newsstand and so it has a slight water stain at the bottom left. It would easily wash out with simple restoration bath that would cost about 0 to execute. I decided to enjoy the poster as is, but I can understand if someone wants to wash out the stain. I can direct the buyer where to go to have this done. I've posted a direct high-res scan of the poster on eBay so you can see how amazing this image truly is. Interestingly, Hitchcock did NOT appear on the cover of the Saturday Evening Post that corresponded with this advertising piece, which makes this rarity even better and more exclusive!! I've posted a digitized scan of the article for you to read. It's GREAT!
